Intaglio Workshop at the GSS!October 23rd - 25th$165 for three days at The Gowanus Studio Space Click To Register!www.GowanusStudio.org/intaglioThe Printmaking Workshop at The Gowanus Studio Space is proud to offer an intaglio printmaking intensive workshop. Led by printmakers Julia Samuels and Katie Bronson, this workshop will introduce artists and designers to the antiquated art of intaglio printmaking. Developed in Germany and Italy in the 15th Century, intaglio printmaking is beautifully sensitive and versitile art form. We will learn and practice all the basic forms of intaglio printmaking. Participants will be supplied with everything needed to create 3 practice plates and 1 final print. You don't need to bring a thing with you, but you're encouraged to bring along some design ideas. The ScheduleFriday October 23rd, 6:00 pm:* Meet and Greet * "Printmaking is..." and "Intaglio Is..." * Shop Orientation Come to the Gowanus Studio Space for an overview of the type of work we will be creating in the coming weekend, and get oriented with your classmates and the workshop. We will go over some basic vocabulary used in intaglio printmaking, and we will explore the types of image making that lend well to the intaglio print. Saturday October 24th, 10:00pm to 1:00pm * Understand the process * Beginning Demos: 1. Plate Prep, 2. Line Etch, 3. Dry Point, 4. Printing * Understanding Paper 1:00pm - 2:00pm LUNCH! 2:00pm - 6:00pm * Intermediate Demos: 1. Aquatint, 2. Spit bite, 3. Sugar Lift * Intermediate printing demo: 1. Alla Poux Pei, 2. Chine Colle * Open Studios: Class participants practice techniques and printing with demo plates and move on to final plate. The first day in the workshop will be very demo-intensive while we teach many tecniques specific to intaglio printing. By the end of the day, students will have time for free work on their practice and final plates. You will definitely have something to take home and hang on the fridge by the end of today! Sunday October 25th 10:00am - 1:00pm * Review what we accomplished yesterday * Trouble shooting and open studio 1:00pm - 2:00pm LUNCH! 2:00pm - 5:00pm *Finishing prints: signing and editions *Open studios and pulling final prints 5:00pm - 6:00pm *Class Recap and "final critique": A casual review of what the class accomplished *Print Swap: Artists trade momentos of the experience. The second day students will largely work on their plates started the day before, and the instructors will focus on individuals' areas of difficulty. To complete the workshop, students will hang their prints on the wall and talk as a group about what worked and what didn't work. Printers are encouraged to trade works at the end of the workshop. All necessary supplies will be provided, but if you'd like you can bring drawing plans for three (3) 3"x3" practice plates and one (1) 6"x9" plate.
